Abstract

Introduction: Toxoplasmosis is anthropozoonosis transmitted by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii. It is an infection that is relevant due to its high lethality, which can cause anomalies or fetal death, especially in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. It is essential to disseminate information about the epidemiological profile, aiming to propose more effective interventions and results in combating infection. Objective: The objective of this work is to describe the epidemiological profile of gestational toxoplasmosis in the city of Salvador-Bahia from 2019 to 2023. Methods: To conduct this study, data available in the National Disease and Notification System (SINAN/DATASUS) was used. from the city of Salvador-Bahia, covering the period from 2019 to 2023. Approval from the Ethics Committee is not necessary, considering that this is secondary data. The following variables were used: age group, race, trimester of pregnancy, level of education and disease progression. Results: It was observed that, between 2019 and 2023, a total of (n=408) cases were reported in Salvador. With a predominant age range of 20 to 39 years (n=316). As for ethnicity, mixed race had the highest number of occurrences, with (n=224). The third trimester of pregnancy was responsible for (n=186) cases, with (n=1) death. Pregnant women who completed high school were the most reported, with (n=122). Conclusion: In view of the results presented, the need to improve prophylaxis measures and prenatal monitoring is evident, to reduce the incidence of cases of gestational toxoplasmosis.
